François Morellet (1926-2016) was a French artist who, after a small period of figurative painting, turned to geometrical abstraction and became one the leader of this area in the second part of the 20th century. He was influenced by Piet Mondrian in his simple geometrical shapes and his limited colours number and by Max Bill, a great representative of the concrete art, which reduced art to essential for clarity and autonomy of the artwork to create a universal language with shapes that can adapted to every situations and be understood by everyone.
In the 1950’s, he established different distribution systems of shapes where every artwork mixes predefined choice and chance. He used simple shapes, a small number of colours and basic compositions (juxtaposition, superposition, fragmentation, grid).
In 1960, he founded the French GRAV, VARG* (Visual Art Research Group) with other artists such as Julio Le Parc, Joël Stein or Jean-Pierre Yvaral and turned to kinetic art. He also participated to the “New tendencies” movement, which created an experimental art based on scientific knowledge of visual perception.
In 1963, Morellet began to create artworks with neon lights, as Dan Flavin, with geometrical shapes arranged in space materializing joyful installations.
From the 1970’s, his creations were more and more stripped and played with the space in which they were showed.
In the 1990’s and 2000’s, he created new artworks series based on systems that defined elements position, their material or their colour. They were developed to the infinite with straight lines and then curved lines.

Christel Sadde (1968) is a French artist who began her career in graphic design and then developed a passion for Calder. She began to draw mobiles inspired by geometrical abstraction and kinetic art. In 2003, she created her company Volabile following to an order of 50 mobiles by the Sentou Gallery. More recently, she began to create “stabiles”, sculptures on solid base where small mobile were hang. Her artwork is considered as decoration items and also as geometrical, aerial and shiny. Some of her pieces pay tribute to major artists of the 20th century such as Vassily Kandinsky, Kasimir Malevitch or Victor Vasarely.
