Philippe Jean (1931-1987) is a French sculptor and designer. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Versailles, then joined the sculpture workshop at the École Boulle in Paris. When he left school in the 1950s, he took a place with Carlhian, one of the great Parisian decorators of the time. He then devoted himself to the antiques trade.
From the 1970s, he devoted himself to design and sculpture. He then began creating and manufacturing lighting and contemporary furniture, combining stainless steel and plexiglass.
At the end of the 1970s, Philippe Jean devoted himself more fully to sculpture, in his workshop in Jouy (Eure-et-Loir). His sculptures were exhibited at the time in prestigious French and European galleries and around the world (New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Sydney, Tokyo).
