The athenienne stand is a small furniture, used as a console or as a sink, inspired by antique trivets and appearing in the late 18th century. Usually, it’s composed of three or four legs, joined by one or several stretchers forming a base and supporting a basin or a tray in bronze, marble, glass or porcelain. Many examples appeared during the French Directoire and the French First Empire, with the more fine and well-known are the ones made by Pierre-Benoît Marcion or Martin-Guillaume Biennais.
