French Directoire style athenienne pedestal table in mahogany, standing on four truncated legs finishing in saber shape. Red cherry marble greek cross shaped stretcher with curved angles, receiving a chiselled and gilt bronze ewer on a moulded mahogany base, in the Antique style, with a decor figuring a battle.
Chiseled and gilt bronze ornamentation such as cloven hoof foot, the moulded edge of the tray adorned with beads frieze like the octagonal rings of the legs and the lingotiere framing the tray.
Round upper tray on brown, grey and beige onyx.

Work realized in the late 19th century.

The athenienne stand is a small furniture, used as a console or as a sink, inspired by antique trivets and appearing in the late 18th century. Usually, it’s composed of tree or four legs, joined by one or several stretcher forming a base and supporting a basin or a tray in bronze, marble, glass or porcelain. Many examples appeared during the French Directoire and the French First Empire, with the more fine and well-known are the ones made by Pierre-Benoît Marcion or Martin-Guillaume Biennais.
