Pierre Boncompain is a ceramist painter born in 1938 at Valence (France). He is valedictorian of the French National School of Decorative Art in 1959, followed then the courses of the French National School of Fine Arts and is selected for the Charles Paquement Prize of French Modern Art Museum.
Boncompain is associated to the Vallauris potters of the 20th century ; they were getting along with Picasso that worked in Vallauris at this same period and the Vallauris production was famous for his quality and originality.

Pierre Boncompain was for quite a long time exclusively represented by the Sassi Micili Gallery, which explains the stamp at the back of the plate.
