Tobia Scarpa is an Italian designer born in 1935. Graduated from the University of Venice in 1969, he received the “Compasso d’Oro” prize that year, a consecration in terms of design. His career is crowned with numerous awards. His “Liberta” chair is on display at the Louvre Museum. In the field of lighting, Tobia Scarpa has worked a lot for Flos.

Flos is an Italian lighting house founded in 1960. Achille Castiglioni and Philippe Starck worked with Flos. Flos also has a reissue activity, since it reissues the Arco floor lamp by the Castiglioni brothers. Flos was also a winner of the “Compasso d’Oro“.

The Compasso d’Oro, is one of the most prestigious international product design awards. It was created in 1954 in Lombardy by the famous designer Gio Ponti. This prize recognizes creations made in Italy. The winners are mainly Italian designers, but also big names in international design, such as Philippe Starck, for creations made in Italy. The prizes are awarded by international juries for creations in furniture, tableware, automobiles, industrial design.
