The cracked porcelain is a technique consisting to the creation of a lattice of irregular cracks formed by the superior enamel. Originally it came from a production default and then this technique became decorative giving birth to porcelain called “cracked” and visible in the best pieces coming from from China and Japan. The cracked effect is done when earthenware and enamel that cover it don’t cool identically, creating cracks on item glaze.
In China, we can see cracked porcelain on Guan wares, official wares of the Song dynasty (960-1279), very much liked in the 18th century during Qianlong’s (1736-1795).
