Pair of tea canisters mounted as a lamp, circa 1880

Pair of tea canisters in lacquered sheet metal, with Japanese or Asian decor, polygonal in shape, representing characters or panoramas, genre scenes or scenettes, scenes of games and leisure with backgrounds in yellow, green tones and blue.

The first panel represents a central character, dressed in Asian style, under an umbrella, on a background decorated with a pagoda and a screen, a woman holding a tray and a teapot in the lower part, a butterfly in a form circular at the top.

The second panel represents in the central part a sphere and butterflies on a midnight blue background. In the lower part, a sailboat, houses and a lighthouse, a tree and on the horizon a mountain range. In the upper part, a fan decorated in its center with a fish.

The third panel represents a character playing with a kite, with a sailboat in the upper part on a sea in shades of green.

The fourth side represents in the upper part a character holding a scale with baskets filled with fruits or vegetables. In the center, a bird stands on its branch. In the lower part, there are two sailboats at sunset.

The fifth panel represents two women – or geisha – standing in front of an Asian building, dressed in traditional kimonos, one of them holding a parasol.

The sixth panel represents a woman – or geisha – dressed in a kimono and a traditional conical straw hat, holding an instrument as well as a woman holding an object in her hand. In the lower part, a figure is riding a boat near a bridge over a body of water, with two trees, a suggested building and a mountain range in the background.
