Gillows of Lancaster, Regency style chair, end of the 19th century.

750,00

Regency style carved mahogany hall chair, standing on two turned tapered front legs and two saber back legs. Seat with canted corners tightened backwards. Back carved as a shell with two C-scrolls beneath.

Model created by Gillows of London and Lancaster, founded c.1730, one of the most eminent English making firm of the late 18th and early 19th century. It was a family House until it was buy by some partners and became bigger after 1815. The House produced high quality furniture through the 19th century and closed in 1962.
This model was first seen in 1811, ordered by the Reverend Holland Edward of Pennant. It was regularly reedited since, mainly by Gillows but also by external cabinetmaker for Gillows workshop (in this case, items weren’t stamped, except sometimes with the cabinetmaker initials) and also, time to time, by other making firms.

Work realized in the late 19th century.
