Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956) was an Austrian architect and designer, iconic figure of Vienna Secession in the 20th century. After starting to get interest to craftsmanship, he studied architecture at the Senior State Commercial and Technical School of Brno (Czech Republic). He left Czech Republic to settle in Vienna where he studied at the Fine Arts Academy, under the leadership of Karl Von Hasenauer and Otto Wagner, pioneer of Art Nouveau. Otto Wagner inspired Hoffmann when he found Vienna Secession, a group of artist which included Gustav Klimt. This group promoted a modern and expermiental artistic approach. Later, he quitted the Secession to devote himself to Stoclet Palace in Brussels, his biggest masterpiece.
