The gateleg table appeared in England in the 16th century. It was caracterized by a system of rotating legs permitting to enlarge the table thanks to two drop leaves. Round, oval, rectangular or square shape, it stands on four to twelve legs and is often in oak or walnut. Used in less opulent and smaller interiors, gateleg tables allowed space saving as a dining room table and might also be used as a side table.
